Plant Trials Manager

Position Type / Hours: Full-time with average week 40 hours; must be willing to work additional hours as needed (whatever it takes to accomplish goals and objectives).

The Plant Trials Manager will be responsible for the management of new products, trial and demonstration gardens, and the Gardens Department staff. They will perform various operational and supervisory functions to ensure the effective operation of the Gardens Department at North Creek Nurseries by ensuring that prescribed schedules, policies, and procedures are followed.

Job Activities / Duties:

  • Design, install, and maintain display, trial and demonstration gardens at both growing locations

  • Accession, maintain, evaluate trial plants and plant collections

  • Maintain open lines of communication with plant suppliers, universities, botanic gardens and arboreta

  • Manage and maintain positive relationships with the new product network of breeders, genetics companies, and plant finders

  • Manage Gardens Department staff (including interns) in executing day-to-day tasks

  • Interface with Sales, Marketing and Operations to assure successful launch of new product introductions

  • Administrate the royalty process (quarterly, semi-annually and annually), both incoming and outgoing

  • Work with Marketing Manager to develop and manage Gardens Department plant budget

  • Represent North Creek’s new product offerings via webinars, lectures, sales meetings to customers, and workshops

  • Perform additional duties as required

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions at tasks that are sometimes physically demanding

  • Knowledge of perennial plant propagation helpful

Quality Turf, Inc is in search of a full-time equipment technician/mechanic. Job responsibilities include maintaining and repairing tractors, mowers, harvesters, forklifts, and 18-wheelers. Our Business Manager will be responsible for several databases, will expedite plant sales, and will coordinate the work of office and nursery staff. Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

1. Manage the nursery’s inventory database, tracking plant material under production, available for sale, and advance sales.

2. Handle daily bookkeeping, including accounts payable and receivable, materials ordering, and credit card activities (QuickBooks Pro)

3. Take lead with customer interactions and customer satisfaction. Field incoming customer orders and delegate efficiently to appropriate staff.

4. Expedite and support processing of customer orders through set up, scheduling, and shipping.

5. Support office staff with daily customer orders, coordinating with nursery staff to ensure order fulfillment.

Qualifications:

1. Proven database management skills. Access and Excel preferred or ability to learn quickly.

Landscape Foreman

  • Supervise and train maintenance crews on all aspects of grounds maintenance services

  • Mowing, raking, digging and weeding of landscapes

  • Load and unload heavy equipment and planting material from trucks

  • Attend and participate in crew and department general and safety meetings

Nursery Manager

The Nursery Manager is responsible for obtaining profitable results through managing all aspects of our nursery operations, including management of personnel, operational functions, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Managing day to day operations, including supervising Nursery personnel

Horticulturalist/Greenhouse Manager - Garden Center (Burlington/Mebane)

We are looking for an enthusiastic horticulturalist to join our team as our full-time Greenhouse/Nursery Manager! We need a candidate that is reliable, friendly and knowledgeable.

The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, marketing, identifying plants, watering, ordering and receiving deliveries, and arranging & pricing new inventory. This position interacts with both retail and wholesale customers.

Perform horticultural duties involved in the preparation and maintenance of plants to include preparation of soils, planting, pruning and integrated pest management. A NC Pesticide License is preferred, but not required.

The candidate must be available to work Saturdays and be able to lift at least 50 lbs. The ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and within a small team is needed. Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Education/Training: Work requires knowledge of landscape or horticulture acquired through a two-year Associate’s degree, four-year Bachelor’s degree, or two-year post-secondary education in horticulture, landscaping or a related field.

Minimum of two years’ experience in management.

Candidate can have an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
